Announcing the 2022 GADE Award Winners

Congratulations to the 2021 GADE Awardees!

GADE Community -

On behalf of the Group of Advancement for Doctoral Education (GADE) Board of Directors and Awards Committee, we are pleased to announce the 2022 GADE Award winners.

The GADE Student Award for Social Work Research is given to a doctoral student or a collaborative group of students, whose published (or in press) scholarship advances scientific inquiry in social work or social welfare. GADE strongly believes that excellent social work research contributes to anti-racist, anti-oppressive practices, programs, and policies within social and educational institutions. Consonant with that belief, the Student Award for Social Work Research seeks to encourage and recognize rigorous scholarly work that clearly contributes to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion and demonstrates potential to impact social work practice, policy, or research.

The 2022 GADE Student Award for Social Work Research is awarded to Bernadine Waller, PhD, LMHC from the School of Social Work at Adelphi University for their co-authored paper titled Correlates of depression among Black girls exposed to violence

Named after Donna Harrington, a leader in doctoral education known especially for being an exemplary mentor of doctoral students, the Donna Harrington Award for Excellence in Mentoring of Doctoral Students is given to a faculty member who has a track record of extraordinary, sustained commitment to mentoring of doctoral students, effectiveness in mentoring doctoral students with a demonstrated record of mentoring success, a commitment to creating an environment supportive and inclusive of diverse doctoral students from under-represented communities, and innovativeness in mentoring.

The 2022 Donna Harrington Award for Excellence in Mentoring of Doctoral Students is awarded to Phyllis Solomon, PhD from the School of Social Policy & Practice at the University of Pennsylvania.

Sincere thanks to the GADE Awards Committee for their careful review of the outstanding application pool and to all of the nominators for taking the time to elevate the work of social work faculty and doctoral students. The Awards Committee was extremely impressed by the quality of applications and the exciting work represented in the nomination packages.

Awardees will be recognized at the annual GADE Reception at the Society for Social Work Research (SSWR) Annual Conference in Washington, D.C. (January 12-16, 2022). We hope you will join us for this opportunity to recognize and celebrate their accomplishments.
