State University of New York at Buffalo

School of Social Work

Our program is founded on the premise that sound, rigorous, and creative research is a vital means of advancing social justice. We eschew prescriptive definitions of social work research, and instead offer our students tremendous latitude in charting an innovative course of study. Our program is wholly interdisciplinary, with students taking the vast majority of courses outside of the SSW. To balance this freedom, we concentrate on providing students a clearly structured program and dedicated mentorship. We seek students who are energized by the wide-open prospects of our interdisciplinary and individualized program and who are undaunted by the corresponding challenges, whether being the only social work student in a classroom, trying out a new analytic method, or translating ideas and theories into a new field.
