Awardee Prize Payment Policy

Purpose & Scope
Aligned with the Group for the Advancement of Doctoral Education in Social Work’s commitment to recognizing the excellence of social work doctoral students and educators, the following policy has been implemented to ensure awardees are able to receive their cash prize.

  • U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and eligible non-immigrant worker awardees are required to complete a Form W-9 for tax purposes and will receive their prize as a cash payment via check. Awardees will receive an IRS 1099 Form in January for their tax preparations.
  • Currently enrolled doctoral student awardees that are unable to complete a Form W-9 may receive their prize as an academic scholarship sent to their college/university.
  • Faculty awardees that are unable to complete a Form W-9 may receive their prize as an honorarium sent to their college/university.
  • Awardees that are unable to complete a Form W-9 and are not currently enrolled in a U.S. or Canadian college/university are ineligible to receive a cash prize. However, GADE is able to instead pay for their travel (conference hotel and flight only) to attend CSWE or SSWR to accept their award, up to the award prize amount.
