Coffee Chat Discussion:
Some social work doctoral programs offer training for incoming students that focuses on justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI), and others are considering it. What does such training look like, and what could it look like?
In this coffee chat, we'll discuss what our programs and others are doing and invite program directors to join us in thinking about new approaches to JEDI training to support student growth and learning and prepare students for their time in the doctoral program.
Drawing on engaged pedagogy, we aim to co-create a space where we not only exchange strategies but also envision new approaches that support students in embedding JEDI principles into every aspect of their work. As bell hooks reminds us, "Beloved community is formed not by the eradication of difference but by its affirmation, by each of us claiming the identities and cultural legacies that shape who we are and how we live in the world."
