Marketing & Communications Intern
Position Summary
The Group for the Advancement of Doctoral Education in Social Work (GADE) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Marketing and Communications Intern to support outreach, engagement, and brand visibility across our programs and membership. This position is ideal for a graduate student who is interested in higher education, nonprofit communications, and social work leadership.
GADE is an organization of social work doctoral program directors from more than 100 member institutions. Founded in 1977, our mission is to promote excellence and equity in social work doctoral education through networking, capacity building, and stewardship of the profession. Toward that end, members share knowledge and resources that support innovation and excellence in doctoral education for developing and existing programs; promote the development of doctoral students in all their diversity and publicly recognize their achievements and contributions to the profession; and represent and promote the interests and concerns of social work and social welfare doctoral programs in the larger profession.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Executive Director, the intern will support GADE’s core communications activities, including:
- Preparing and distributing the biweekly newsletter
- Managing and scheduling content for social media platforms
- Creating graphics, visual assets, and promotional materials for events and programs
- Updating and maintaining web content on the website
- Completing light data entry and membership information management
- Assisting with special campaigns for GADE’s 50th Anniversary, Social Work Month, and donor and alumni engagement initiatives
Skills and Qualifications
- Strong written and verbal communication
- Experience with social media management and simple graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Buffer)
- Basic familiarity with website content management systems
- Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy in detail-oriented tasks
- Interest in doctoral education, social work, or nonprofit communications is preferred

| Requirements |
Eligibility
- Currently enrolled as a graduate student at a GADE member institution. Enrollment as an MSW, DSW, or PhD in Social Work program is not required.
- In good academic standing.
Compensation
$750 per semester, paid as a 1099 independent contractor. Appointment will be by semester with ability for renewal upon completion of satisfactory performance.
Hours and Work Environment
- Flexible schedule and remote.
- The intern will be required to use their own computer device, however paid subscription to Canva, Buffer, and Google Platform will be provided.
- Estimated 10 hours per month, depending on project needs.
- This internship will begin in January 2026.
