Two Tenure-Track Assistant Professor Positions
The School of Social Work at Bridgewater State University (BSU) has experienced dynamic growth and invites applications for two full-time, tenure-track teaching positions at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning September 2025. The School of Social Work houses a BSW program and an MSW program. Our BSW and MSW programs are accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) and enrollment totals approximately 550 students. According to US News & World Report, the School of Social Work is ranked in the top 100 Schools of Social Work at number 83. The School of Social Work (SSW) at Bridgewater State University is part of a cohesive campus community that provides professional opportunities for faculty advancement in teaching and scholarship and a clear path to tenure. Funding for faculty scholarship is available through the Center for the Advancement of Research and Scholarship as well as the Office of Teaching and Learning. There is also a significant institutional commitment to undergraduate research and international engagement.
Teaching responsibilities will be in the undergraduate and/or graduate social work programs. Primary course responsibilities may include: human behavior and the social environment; the dynamics of diversity and oppression; practice with individuals, families or groups; and field seminar. Teaching assignments will depend on the expertise of the candidate and programmatic needs. A commitment to working with non-traditional students will require evening and some weekend teaching. Additional responsibilities include student advising, curriculum/program development and assessment, and collaboration on school, college, and university-wide committees. In addition, faculty are encouraged to contribute to leadership within the school as opportunities become available.
We are considering the future directions of the School of Social Work and hope to recruit faculty with experience in varied delivery models (online, Hybrid, Hyflex) to complement our on-campus teaching. We also welcome faculty innovation in teaching that includes use of simulation and other pilots/inclusion of ways to assist our student learning.
Applicants should be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and advising and to working with a diverse student body. Candidates whose teaching, research, and advising is informed by equity minded practices and a social justice lens are strongly encouraged to apply. Applicants should have the ability to work collaboratively and use technology effectively in teaching and learning. Applicants must demonstrate evidence of scholarly activity and a commitment to public higher education.
