Open-rank Tenure-track Faculty Positions
Rutgers University School of Social Work (RUSSW) seeks dynamic scholars to join our productive faculty in continued expansion of the School’s innovative programs in accordance with our strategic plan, Toward a More Just Future. We continue to build out new research clusters, with tenured leadership and pre-tenure partners, in five strategic areas:

Technology and Social Work, Social Determinants of Health and/or Health Care Practice, Juvenile and Criminal Justice Practice and Reform, Immigration and Refugee Needs and Policy, and Social Impacts of Climate Change and Environmental Justice.

There are many exciting IIDEA (Inclusion, Intersectionality, Diversity, Equity and Advancement), curriculum, student support and community engagement goals in our strategic plan. We place a high priority on practice experience and potential for research partnership with diverse communities. We will hire multiple tenure-track faculty members this cycle.

Applicants seeking a tenured position should be ready to build a well-funded research cluster. Applicants seeking a pre-tenure position should be ready to join an emerging team. All should be excited to build relationships and research in a vibrant school, university, and community. RUSSW seeks highly motivated and productive scholars and entrepreneurial and innovative thinkers, who are committed to high-impact research, social justice, and social work education. The School is regarded for its strong commitment to both R1-level scholarship and to our tradition of community-engaged research partnerships. We welcome applications from scholars across methodological traditions, including quantitative, qualitative, mixed methods, and community-based participatory research.

We are dedicated to ensuring a diverse and inclusive faculty environment and especially welcome applicants from underrepresented groups. Faculty who join us will have the opportunity to work in one of the most diverse states in the nation and with a student body that represents a wide range of backgrounds, cultures, and identities. Our faculty is an open and collegial group, with a commitment to the success of our pre-tenure faculty.

RUSSW, ranked #12 among MSW programs in the nation, is among the largest and most diverse social work programs in the United States, offering BASW, MSW, DSW, and Ph.D. degrees to over 2,000 students across three campuses in Camden (Philadelphia metropolitan area), Newark (New York metropolitan area), and New Brunswick, the flagship campus. The School’s externally funded portfolio exceeds $50 million. RUSSW research and practice centers include the Center for Research on Ending Violence, the Center for Prevention Science, the Center for Gambling Studies, the Center for Leadership and Management, the Hub for Aging Collaboration, and the Institute for Families, a multi-million-dollar partnership with NJ’s Departments of Human Services and Children and Families.

Founded in 1766, Rutgers is the eighth-oldest institution of higher learning in the United States, and a major research university. Rutgers is a member of the Association of American Universities, a federation of 62 leading research universities in the US and Canada, and the Big Ten Academic Alliance, an academic consortium of Big 10 universities that collectively engage in over $10 billion in funded research each year. Outside the School, there are rich opportunities for collaboration with other professional schools at Rutgers, including the School of Public Health, the School of Communication and Information, the School of Management and Labor Relations, the School of Criminal Justice, and the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, to name but a few
