On behalf of the Group for the Advancement for Doctoral Education in Social Work (GADE), we invite nominations for three (3) open positions on the Board of Directors. All Board Members shall serve a 3-year term, and they may be re-elected for one consecutive term. Board Members are elected by the membership, per the GADE Constitution.
The Board is involved in strategic planning, financial oversight, conference planning, bylaws review and revision, website design and maintenance, as well as the planning and implementation of all initiatives and sponsored events, including the awards program and collaborations with CSWE, SSWR, and others. The Board typically meets virtually via Zoom monthly, and in some cases in-person at the CSWE and SSWR annual conferences, and at the GADE Annual Conference.
This year, the election of new Board of Directors will take place online from March 17–24, 2023. Winners will be informed via email prior to the Annual Conference and announced during the conference which takes place this year at the University of Texas at Arlington on March 29–31, 2023. A press release will be issued soon thereafter.
- The President-Elect serves a one-year term and works closely with the outgoing President to learn the roles and responsibilities of the position. The President-Elect may substitute for the President when needed. The President-Elect will assume the role of President in AY24-25 for a two-year term and then will move into the Immediate Past President position on the Board.
- The At-Large Members (two open) typically take on a leadership role as Chairperson of one of the committees. Each committee may elect a co-chair. The President shall appoint chairs to all standing committees subject to the Board advice and consent. Committee chairpersons are responsible for soliciting members for the committee. Membership of each subcommittee is posted on the website on an annual basis. The committee Chairperson will keep an accurate record of committee meetings and decisions and be prepared to present the committee report to the Board as required. The committee Chairperson shall provide regular updates of the committee’s work the Board either in writing or through the Board conference calls or meetings. Committees include: Awards, Program, Constitution, Finance, and Marketing & Communications.
Nomination Process
Nominees are asked to submit a short biography and headshot by visiting gadesocialwork.org/board-nominations. Nominations are due by March 15, 2023. Self-nominations are especially welcome! Outgoing Board Members this year include: Drs. G. Lawrence Farmer (Past Co-President), Julia R. Henly (Past Co-President), and Michael C. LaSala (Member-at-Large). We thank them for their service and partnership in leading GADE.
We encourage and welcome your active participation in the leadership of GADE. We hope that by March 15, you will place your name or a colleague’s name in nomination. We are looking for people who will be committed throughout their term of board service and plan on remaining in their roles as directors, chairs, or associate deans of doctoral programs. If you are planning a sabbatical or another type of leave that will make it difficult for you to participate in the Board’s work, please consider applying another year.
