Bryn Mawr College

Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research

We offer a research- and theory-based Ph.D. in social work. Six research courses and three theory courses are required. We also require a course in pedagogy. Two of the twelve courses in the program are electives. The six research courses include two courses in qualitative analysis, two in research design, and two in data analysis. We have full tuition remission and also give stipends (without work requirements) to those students who attend the program.  Some of our recent graduates have taken academic jobs at Indiana University, the University of Tel Aviv, the University of Maryland, the University of Alabama, George Mason University, the University of Eastern Michigan, and the University of Washington (both Seattle and Tacoma). We have others who have become Assistant or Associate Deans or Deans at Boston University, the University of Pennsylvania, Widener University, West Chester University, Monmouth University, and the University of Washington. Other graduates from our Ph.D. program include the President and CEO of the Annie E. Casey Foundation and the President and CEO of CSWE.
